SCRIPTURE:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And his master saw that the Lord was <\/em>with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that <\/em>he had he put into his hand. (Genesis 39:3\u20134)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DEVOTIONAL:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It seems that wherever Joseph went, he ended up being in charge of everything. People saw something in Joseph that made them want to put him in charge; to place him in a leadership role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is a leader? A leader is one who guides by\ninfluence or one who directs by going before, or along with. <\/em><\/strong>The key\nwords in this definition are \u201cguides by influence.\u201d That means you should have\nyour act so together that people want to be like you. You should be leading to\nthe point that people would want to follow where you\u2019re going, versus being\nforced to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A leader is someone that others\nwant to follow. Notice that I didn\u2019t say, \u201cSomeone that others are made <\/em>to\nfollow.\u201d Have you ever heard the expression, \u201cDo as I say and not as I do?\u201d\nThat\u2019s not the sentiments of a good leader. The best way to lead is \u201cby example.\u201d\nPeople are watching your example and should willingly choose to follow you, not\nbe forced to follow you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve worked at different\norganizations in my life and have noticed that in some corporations, a leader\nwould be placed in a certain position while their subordinates knew that the\nperson was not a good leader. The subordinates had no choice but to follow that\nleader once he was in place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Situations like this can lead to a\nsystemic failure within that organization. As in the film classic, The Cain\nMutiny<\/em>, the officers and crew of this naval ship were forced to follow the\nlead of a tyrannical captain which led to an uprising and mutiny. Situations\nlike this squelch productivity and are not conducive to maximizing potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PRAYER:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dear God, make me a leader who influences by\nexample in my family, at my job or in my business, in my community or wherever\nelse You have placed me. As You enable me, I will lead in a way people will\nwant to follow. In Jesus\u2019 Name, Amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
