SCRIPTURE:

Meditate on (God’s Word) day and night so that you may act carefully according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way successful, and you will be wise. (Joshua 1:8 MEV)

DEVOTIONAL:

In the Old Testament, when God turned over the leadership of the children of Israel to Moses’ protégé, Joshua, God instructed Joshua on the key ingredient for his success: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shall make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8). The Amplified Bible says, “…you shall deal wisely and have good success.”

Meditation of God’s Word (biblical meditation) was the key ingredient to Joshua’s success and it was something Israel was commanded (not an option) to do while they worked during the day and in the quiet hours of the night. God commanded it throughout the history of His people.

This principle still applies to believers today—that would be you and me—and is the primary way we get wisdom for our daily lives.

PRAYER:

Dear God, thank you for Your Word. I purpose to set aside time daily to read Your Word and then to meditate it and apply it to every situation in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
