SCRIPTURE:

But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. (Psalm 1:2 AMPC)

DEVOTIONAL:

God commanded His people to meditate His Word throughout history because it is spiritual law and how the kingdom of God operates in the earth. Here are some examples:

Abraham meditated on the stars that God showed him when He said, “Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them:  and He said unto him, so shall thy seed be” (Genesis 15:5).

Isaac went out to meditate just before dusk. This was probably a custom that was handed down to him from his fatherAbraham. “And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at eventide . . .” (Genesis 24:63).

King David meditated God’s Word. In the book of Psalms, David writes, “I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune (meditate) with mine own heart:  and my spirit made diligent search” (Psalm 77:6). “Mine eyes prevent the night watches that I might meditate in thy word” (Psalm 119:148).

For David, meditation was a time of fellowship with the Lord, a time of worship and praise, which draws the presence of God. When we meditate, our spirit makes diligent search. This is our heart (spirit) reaching for answers or making new discoveries in God’s Word.

PRAYER:

Lord, I commit to daily spending time with You in the meditation of Your Word. I praise and worship You and look forward to our times of fellowship. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
