Don’t Let People Fool You
SCRIPTURE:
Don’t let anyone fool you by using senseless arguments. These arguments may sound wise, but they are only human teachings. They come from the powers of this world and not from Christ. (Colossians 2:8 CEV)
DEVOTIONAL:
As children of God, we must practice discernment. We must abide by God’s teachings and commands, and resist the influences of the world. People can fool you.
In this week’s theme scripture, Colossians 2:8 (see above), God is saying that there is no comparison between worldly teachings and the teaching of Christ. God’s teachings are perfect, while ours are flawed. No surprise there. Every argument, every tension, every unpleasant thing comes from the powers of this world. Satan stirs up arguments and strife in an attempt to gain control of the message we hear. He wants to distract us so we lose our focus.
Therefore, we must not elevate the words and ways of this world, so that they are more important than God’s Word and direction in our lives. We must walk closely with Him, so we can keep our focus on His ways. If we walk the high life, we will engage in activities that strengthen our faith, and expect the impossible. Remind yourself that the Word of God, the gospel, is not logical. Miracles are not logical. Eternal life is not logical. But they all are very real. God is alive.
Don’t let people fool you. When you claim His promises, He faithfully answers.
PRAYER:
Dear God, thank you for giving me discernment and not to be fooled by people or the ways of this world as I meditate on the truths in Your Word. I am diligent to keep my focus on You and I receive Your direction. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
