Scripture:

Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and wonders [that are to take place] in Israel from the Lord of hosts, Who dwells on Mount Zion. When the people [instead of trusting God] say to you, “Consult the mediums [who try to talk to the dead] and the soothsayers who chirp and whisper and mutter,” should not a people consult their God?
(Isaiah 8:18-19 AMP)

Devotion:

It was a time in Israel when the land was filled with idolatry. Instead of seeking the Lord and trusting in His Word, the people turned to mediums and idols to guide them. Today, the New Age movement has captivated many, even some of God’s people, to believe in paranormal events and fortune tellers.

This is a tool of the devil to derail the plans and purposes of God in the lives of His people and to take control of the hearts, minds and lives of believers. Less obvious than the enticements of witchcraft and idolatry are the subtle effects of worldly “chatter.” The nightly news, social media and hundreds of advertisements and commercials, designed to lure us into dependence on this world’s system, bombard the airwaves daily.

Of course, some of the news and communication we hear is good, but much of it takes captive its viewers and numbs us to hearing the voice of God clearly. Like Isaiah, we must remain faithful to God, place our trust in His Word, and seek Him for the direction and provision we need that will bring blessing and victory in every situation.

Prayer:

Lord, I thank you for Your Word and Your Spirit that guide me to make right decisions and choices in my life. I pray that You will give me discernment in everything that I see and hear, so that I will not be deceived or tempted to follow any voice, but Yours. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
