SCRIPTURE:

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

(James 1:26)

DEVOTIONAL:

If you do not bridle your tongue and say any old thing, it will deposit in your heart and eventually come out again—and you will have what you say. Every time you say or hear something, deposits are made in your heart. When pressure comes, you instinctively draw from that treasure or deposit and end up producing more of the same.

Death and life are truly in the power of the tongue. Following are confessions that bring life:

Instead of saying, I can’t afford that,
I will say: With God all things are possible.
Instead of saying, I’m sick,
I will say: By His stripes, I am healed.
Instead of saying, I’m tired,
I will say: The joy of the Lord is my strength.
Instead of saying: I don’t know how to do that,
I will say: God teaches me to prosper.
Instead of saying, I’m lonely,
I will say: God said He’ll never leave me or forsake me.
Instead of saying, I’m barren,
I will say: Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but God will deliver me out of them all.

PRAYER:

Dear God, I choose to speak words that align with Your Word. (Repeat out loud the confessions above.)
