Scripture:

Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
(John 14:10)

Devotion:

Jesus is revealing His Father to the disciples and Philip asks, “Lord, show us the Father…” (verse 8). Jesus then responds, “Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me. Or else believe Me on account of the works themselves” (verse 11 MEV). Isn’t this just like millions of people today? They do not believe Jesus is who He says He is.

Do you know that you may be the only example of Jesus that some people see? They don’t go to church or turn on a Christian TV or radio program. How will they believe what you tell them about the Savior? Jesus gives us the answer: “Believe Me on account of the works (I do).”

Jesus is speaking here about His miraculous works: the lame walking, the blind seeing and those who were oppressed being set free. If you are a believer, He has called you to a supernatural ministry, too: “Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me will do the works that I do also. And he will do greater works than these, because I am going to My Father” (verse 12 MEV). Do not feel intimidated or believe that you cannot possibly do what Jesus did. You don’t have to do it—It will be Jesus in you doing the works, just like the Father was in Him doing the works.

Prayer:

Dear God, Jesus said I would do the same works He did—and even greater. I ask You to anoint me and guide me to minister to those You place in my path. Holy Spirit, fill me with Your power, Your words, and the compassion and obedience of Jesus. I give myself to You to be used to help hurting people. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
