Scripture:

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
(Ephesians 1:18-19)

Devotion:

Continuing from last week’s devotion in Ephesians, chapter one, let’s look again at Paul’s prayer, this time in the Message version:

I ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers, oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him—endless energy, boundless strength!

What a promise! “A glorious way of life He has for His followers”—We call this living by faith in the kingdom of God, not just when we get to heaven, but here and now. God has a wonderful plan and purpose for your life. His calling is greater than the life you may have already mapped out for yourself because His great power is at work in those who place their trust in Him.

Prayer:

Today, pray for yourself Paul’s prayer above. Substitute the word “me” where it says “you” and “my” in place of “your”—and watch God answer with “utter extravagance” as His mighty power works in you!
