Scripture:

Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor [who practices loving others] has fulfilled the Law [relating to one’s fellowmen, meeting all its requirements].
(Romans 13:8 AMP)

Devotion:

This week, we celebrate July 4th, Independence Day. What does this holiday represent? Freedom and independence! While we celebrate the freedom we enjoy as Americans, there’s another area in which we need freedom . . . debt!

Today’s scripture warns us to keep out of debt and owe nothing to anybody. Why? Proverbs 22:7 instructs us in wisdom concerning debt: “The rich rule over the poor and the borrower is servant to the lender.” When you borrow, the creditor gains control over you and that which you own. If you’re not able to make your payments on time, he can take the house or car—or even garnish your wages or bank accounts.

If you are in debt, start paying it down as quickly as possible and don’t get back in the debt trap. Wait on the Lord—He has promised to provide for all your needs. Believe God to bless you with favor and provision, so that you can pay cash for your next big purchase!

Prayer:

Lord, I pray that You will help me get out of debt. Please give me favor with the lender to work out a solution that will reduce my debt and the time to pay it. I thank you for financial breakthrough and provision to get out of debt and stay out of debt. I put my trust in You and believe I receive Your wisdom for my financial situation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
